Group Train Travel Discounts

Group travel offers discounts on train fares. For groups of 3 to 9 adults, select GroupSave to save 1/3 on fares, or choose a Small Group Day Ticket to enjoy 25% off during off-peak times. The Off-Peak Family Travelcard and Stansted Express also provide discounts for group travel, significantly reducing costs.

GroupSave: Discounts for Groups of 3–9

To use GroupSave Tickets, your entire group must travel together at all times for the tickets to remain valid. With GroupSave, groups of 3 to 9 adults can save 1/3 on fares when traveling during off-peak hours on single or return journeys.

GroupSave is only valid for standard class bookings during off-peak times. Train companies such as c2c, South Western Railway, and Great Northern all offer GroupSave discounts.

Off-Peak Family Travelcard

The Off-Peak Family Travelcards allow round-trip travel to London for groups of at least one adult and one child (aged 5–15), with a maximum of two adults and four children. Group members must travel together. The Travelcard offers unlimited travel within Zones 1–6 in London during off-peak times.

Transport for Wales: Small Group Day Ticket

Groups of 3 to 9 people can save 25% with Transport for Wales. The tickets are valid during Off-Peak hours (after 09:30) on weekdays and all day on weekends and public holidays. Your group must start and finish the journey together.

Stansted Express: Discounts for Groups of 10 or More

The Stansted Express offers discounted fares for groups of 10 or more traveling between Stansted Airport and London. Tickets for adults are just GBP 10 one-way, with even lower fares for children. Payment is required 10 days in advance, and the group must travel together.

How to Buy Discounted Group Travel Tickets on TrainPal

  1. Enter departure and destination: Enter the city or station you are departing from and traveling to.

  2. Select travel times: Choose specific departure and return times (a return trip is required for the Off-Peak Family Travelcard).

  3. Specify group size: Select the number of adults or children in your group (3–9 people for GroupSave, or at least one adult and one child for the Off-Peak Family Travelcard). Then click "Done" and "Search."

  4. Apply discount: Click "Apply Discount" to save 1/3 with GroupSave, or click "View First Class & More Tickets" to check the available Off-Peak Family Travelcards.

  5. Choose and book: Select the cheapest ticket after the discount is applied, then click "Continue" to book your ticket.

Train Ticket Discounts for Children

Children under 5 can travel for free, and children aged 5 to 15 receive a 50% discount. Some train companies also offer GBP 1 and GBP 2 fares for children traveling with adults during off-peak times, making it very affordable to travel by train.

Kids for a Quid

"Kids for a Quid" is a special type of fare offered by UK train companies. During off-peak times, up to 4 children aged 5–15 can travel for just GBP 1 each, one-way or round-trip, when accompanied by an adult.

This ticket is valid for travel into London Zones 1–6 or for journeys not wholly within the London Zones 1–9 area. It makes train travel in the UK highly affordable for families.

You can find "Kids for GBP 2" tickets with certain train companies on selected routes through TrainPal.
