Hamburg Hauptbahnhof, also known as Hamburg, is the main train station in Hamburg. It was built in 1906 to replace smaller termini and now serves as the main point for trains to Hamburg. The station is huge with 14 platforms, numbered one to 14 from east to west. It is a through station, not a terminus, and you’ll find trains fromBerlin, Cologne, Switzerland, and so on coming in from the south, while trains from Copenhagen and the nearby Hamburg Altona come in from the north. You can access the platforms from the main footbridge on the north end of the train station or the smaller footbridge on the south end. The station is very accessible, with escalators and steps provided for access to the footbridges and lifts between each platform. The station has around 75 shops and restaurants open all week, and travellers have plenty of options. Travel from Hamburg city centre to Hamburg train station is pretty easy, as the train station is located in the heart of the city, just a short walk from the centre.
